I first became sick from a genetic kidney disease in 1979 when I was twenty-one years old. Since then, I've had two transplants (from cadavers) that each worked only for a short time.
I am going to be fifty-three years old next month, so I've literally been on and off dialysis for most of my life.
I'm hoping and praying to receive a kidney from a living donor because there is less change of rejection. I've been back on the transplant list since 2003 at Buffalo General Hospital, and back on dialysis since February 2005.
I met my wife in the dialysis unit - she was one of my nurses there. We were married in 2002 and since then, I'm the happiest I've ever been in my life! I "inherited" five beautiful grandchildren and two foster grandchildren with whom we love spending time with. My wish is to see them grow up. My wife Char and I are very passionate about gardening and plan to make a special garden for them this spring.
There are so many things that I want to do, but it's difficult to impossible when you're on dialysis - you never feel good and have very little energy most of the time.
I really love my life now and want to be able to live it normally and to the fullest!
I am anxiously waiting for and would be thrilled to receive ANY kidney, but would consider it a miracle to receive one from a living donor.
There's no greater gift that the gift of life.
My blood type in "O".
Thank you for reading my profile.
