Longtime West Seneca resident Tammy Light is suffering from kidney disease. Her kidneys have failed and she is receiving dialysis treatments to stay alive. She is on the national waiting list for a kidney transplant. Friends, relatives, and co-workers have selflessly offered to donate one of their kidneys! Unfortunately, none of them were compatible because of blood type or health problems. So Tammy continues to wait along with two dear friends whose fathers are also in need of a kidney transplant. The wait is expected to be years and years. It is very difficult to remain healthy after years of dialysis. Many people die while waiting. We are reaching out to the community in hopes that someone may consider giving the gift of life. Tammy continues to raise 4 wonderful children, 2 boys ages 17 & 12 and twin girls age 9, despite uncomfortable and sometimes painful dialysis treatments 3 times per week, 4 hours each treatment. Her children are her world. Tammy watched as her mother and aunt battled kidney disease. Back then there were fewer options for transplantation, and her mom and aunt died from kidney failure. Today, living donors are saving lives. Many people do not know that they can live a completely full and healthy life with only one kidney. Actually we only need ½ of a healthy functioning kidney to live a normal life! Tammy’s cousin Diane Krzyzanowski received her life saving kidney from an altruistic donor on December 13th at Buffalo General Hospital. The family is praying that another donor will come forward to help Tammy. If you are an O blood type, and are interested in learning more about organ donation, please call Transplant Coordinator Haley at Buffalo General Hospital’s Transplant Center at 859-1345 or 859-2354. You can also call email Tammy at light04bright@yahoo.com Thank you for reading this profile. Congratulations to Tammy - She received her kidney April 28th. We are so happy for you and your family. |
